Misguided Japanese government

Statement by Family Federation of North America protesting misguided Japanese government trying to dissolve the Family Federation of Japan

NEW YORK CITY, NY (October 12, 2023) — The leaders and members of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification – North America strongly protest the Japanese government’s misguided efforts to dissolve our sister organization in Japan.

The following statement may be attributed to Rev. Demian Dunkley, President of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification – North America:

As a global movement dedicated to healthy, happy families and world peace in all lands and cultures, the actions of Japan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, opposing the Family Federation in Japan are simply unimaginable.

The Family Federation had nothing to do with the brutal and senseless assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. We admired him and still grieve his shocking murder.

We have been further astonished that some of Japan’s politicians and media decided to blame our religious corporation in Japan for the heinous act of one antisocial man.

We, of course, recognize the antagonistic rhetoric and strategies of our opponents in the defaming of our organization and members. But we never imagined Japan’s well-educated and socially savvy public would take seriously the wild accusations of a small group of vocal communists, leftists, and former members.

Personally, I am extremely surprised by the stance of public opinion in Japan against our members. Do they know that countless numbers of Japanese citizens moved to every continent of the globe to serve local villages, towns, cities, communities, and churches? These Japanese citizens are all married, raising healthy families, and instilling values that Japanese culture is known for, such as filial piety, respect for elders, and the mindset of public service for the sake of others. I have not met any other group from Japan that has had as much positive influence around the world. Regardless of people’s current religious beliefs, I believe that the Japanese people should be proud of the dedicated, selfless work of the Family Federation.

Here, barely able to move after the long captivity. Still today, he is a victim of defamatory remarks by a Japanese journalist, whom Toru Goto felt forced to sue for defamation.  Altogether, 4,300 members of the Family Federation in Japan have been victims of similar forcible detention. Nonetheless, our sister organization in Japan must now defend itself in court against baseless accusations and bring lawsuits for defamation and slander against lawyers and others who have spoken ill of our good name, good works, and good people.

The Family Federation of North America stands with our International Headquarters in Korea and all Family Federation organizations around the globe in decrying this miscarriage of justice. We will do everything in our power to support our Japanese brothers and sisters as they endure this illegal government persecution.
